Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the changes they made to the social media platform’s streaming system. Giving information to users from his personal account, Mosseri stated that as of today, the posts can be sorted in three different ways on the main page of Instagram.

Adam Mosseri testified before Congress in December over allegations that the platform negatively impacted children’s mental health. Currently, Instagram’s algorithm ranks posts on the homepage based on the user’s interest. Listening to the criticism that this experience leads to addiction, Mosseri said that in 2022, the chronological order will return.

Instagram begins testing chronological sorting system

Adam Mosseri gave the news that Instagram users have been waiting for a long time. Announced that they have brought three different sorting options to the platform. One of these options will shape the home page according to your interests as always. However, the other two will list the posts you see in the stream chronologically.

Instagram’s new sorting options are under testing.

Instagram app’s new stream sorting options are as follows:

  • Home page: According to Adam Mosseri’s description, when you select the “Home page” option, the posts in the stream will be sorted according to your interests.
  • Favorites: You can choose this to see the accounts whose posts you do not want to miss. Adam Mosseri said that he uses the Favorites option to follow what his brothers do, his favorite creators and his best friends.
  • Follows: Just like before, you will see posts from your followers on the main page in chronological order.

Adam Mosseri announced that they have started testing the new sorting options with a limited number of users. Expressing that they will expand the test group in a few weeks, the CEO of Instagram stated that they will open the chronological ordering feature to all users in the first half of 2022.

Special appreciation for stories is also on the way

In addition to chronological order, Instagram has also started testing the ability to like stories. The social media platform owned by Meta announced the innovation with the words, “We are working on new ways to help people connect with the people they care about.” He also added that only the person who shared the story will see the number of likes.
