The electric vehicle Renault Zoe, which was first launched at the end of 2012 by the French-based giant automobile manufacturer Renault, has been among the best-selling electric cars in the world for years. The latest model of this vehicle has now taken part in Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) crash tests.

Euro NCAP, which has been testing the robustness of cars in the European market for many years, shared the test results of 2021 Renault Zoe with the whole world. In the shared results, it was observed that Zoe, who managed to get ‘five stars’ in the tests in 2013, failed in the class.

Zoe scored zero on tests

According to the reports shared by Euro NCAP, the car did not receive any stars from the tests and drew ‘zero’. According to the shared data, the vehicle achieved success rates of 43% in adult passenger protection, 52% in child passenger protection, 41% in protection of vulnerable passengers such as pedestrians, and 14% in the Safety Assistant category. These low data have caused many experts to have question marks about the safety of the vehicle.

In the shared results, it was observed that the category with the highest score in the tests was the ‘child passenger’ category, and the lowest was the ‘Safety Assistant’ category. It was stated that the vehicle achieved a total of 25.9 points in tests for children, reaching a rate of 52%. Euro NCAP stated that as a result of tests carried out on a dummy with the physique of a 10-year-old, the electric vehicle provided weak protection for the neck and insufficient protection for the head and chest.

It turned out that the Security Assistant achieved a success rate of 14% by getting a total of 2.2 points in the tests. Euro NCAP states that the seat belt reminder system is standard on all seats; however, he stated that the fatigue detection system is not present in the vehicle. In addition, it was also among the statements that the vehicle received zero points in the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Tracking Tests.

“Renault Group disappointing”

We have to say that Euro NCAP’s ratings are constantly updated. While these tests are not used to certify vehicles for road use, many customers in Europe consider the ratings revealed in Euro NCAP tests before purchasing a vehicle. For this reason, these tests of the Zoe model, which is sold quite a lot, are of great importance for the European market.

Finally, it should be noted that another electric vehicle, Dacia Spring, failed in these tests. Spring, just like Zoe, failed in many categories and received ‘1 star’. Michiel van Ratingen, general secretary of Euro NCAP, said: “Renault was once among the leading car manufacturers in safety. However, Zoe and Dacia Spring disappointed us all and showed that Groupe Renault has problems with safety in the transition to electric cars.
