X (aka Twitter), the world’s most popular microblogging platform, has faced a major setback. An error in the platform algorithm caused photos and videos uploaded to the platform in 2014 and earlier not to be displayed. Also, shortened links could not be reached. In the last checks we made, we see that the error has been partially fixed. Photos and videos are viewable again, but shortened links continue to show as text.

It is not known what kind of error occurred in the X algorithm. However, this mistake caused huge setbacks. Users could not access millions of content, albeit temporarily. Moreover, this error affected all content without exception. In other words, the posts with a few likes and the posts that received millions of interactions were not displayed. Elon Musk did not make any statement about the problem in X.

One of the most popular posts in history was “deleted” due to X’s mistake.

Most of you remember the photo above. This photo, shared by the famous actress Ellen DeGeneres in 2014, is one of the most iconic content of the Oscar Awards. X’s algorithm error caused this post, which received more than 2 million likes, to not appear. In our check, we see that this iconic photo, along with all the other content, is starting to appear on the X again.

Shared by Ellen DeGeneres on March 3, 2014:

One of the first to spot the glitch since Saturday was indie developer Tom Coates. Coates, who said that Elon Musk was vandalizing in his post on X, claimed that he deleted all the images before 2014. Taking action on this sharing, X added a note under the share. On this note, the problem in question has been confirmed. The team explained that the images were not deleted from the servers, and that there was a problem during viewing. In the same note, the sharing of Ellen DeGeneres was also included.

Post by Tom Coates:

More vandalism than Elon Musk. Twitter has now removed all media posted before 2014. Almost a decade of pictures and videos have been removed from the service since the early 2000s. For example, here is a search of my media tweets prior to 2014.
