Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has updated its crowdsourced fact-checking Community Notes feature to directly tag videos and automatically add those notes to matching videos. The same tagging was recently added to images with Community Notes, and last week the platform activated the feature to see the number of matching images valid for each fact check.

No more deceptive videos on X

Now, approved Community Notes will automatically appear whenever a flagged video is published or reshared. The platform says it’s a “highly scalable way” to add additional context to AI-generated videos and misleading video edits. In short, the community prevents the spread of deceptive content by flagging it and gives tips to other users that “this content may be misleading.” For example, if a video about an explosion belongs to an unrelated event years ago, this will be added to the bottom of the post via Community Notes.

On the other hand, X’s crowdsourced moderation efforts were not always successful. After all, this is done by people as a community, and it is always possible for mistakes to be made or a biased approach to be applied. However, Community Notes are still one of the best features of X.

Once posted, Community Notes are reviewed for accuracy by other users in the volunteer moderation program. According to X’s guidelines, when a Community Note is rated helpful by enough users, it is featured directly in the corresponding post.
