The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) held an important meeting today about UFOs (now called UAP). Established in 2022 to investigate UAPs (unidentified anomalous events), the independent research group evaluated the findings for approximately four hours at a public meeting.
In addition to former astronaut Scot Kelly, the group of 16 experts in fields such as astronomy, oceanography and even journalism discussed the issue in detail. So what was discussed at the meeting? Let’s take a brief look at some of them.
Need more high quality data on UAPs
The chairman of the panel, astrophysicist David Spergel, emphasized the most important point in his opening speech. What they learned from their work, according to Spergel, is the need for more high-quality data on unidentified events. So the lack of such data is the biggest obstacle to understanding APIs.
Around 800 mysterious reports were collected
According to the statements, the team managed to collect around 800 mysterious reports. However, it was stated that only a small part of them cannot be explained. Sean Kirkpatric from NASA says that they receive 50-100 reports each month; but he added that between 2% and 5% of these are truly unidentifiable.
For example, a video shot by a navy plane in the western United States was shown during the meeting. In the video, an unexplained spot in the sky was seen. However, it was later found out that this object was a commercial plane heading towards a large airport.
However, it is worth noting that there are unknown events, although their number is small.
NASA says no aliens have been encountered yet
To Spergel, “Has NASA encountered extraterrestrial life?” The question was also posed. One of the biggest questions NASA questions is “Is there life outside of Earth?” While saying that he had a question, he used the following expressions and stated that no alien life had been encountered yet.
“We now know that there are many planets out there. So there are so many potential environments for life. We haven’t found life beyond Earth yet, but we keep looking.”
Things like optical illusions can be misunderstood
The panel also mentioned that some data related to UAPs can be difficult to interpret and easily skewed. Spergel, who led the team, cited some of the radio waves obtained by researchers in Australia. In this event, it was seen that the waves had a strange structure that surprised everyone. But it was later revealed that the researchers received these signals from the microwaves they used to heat their lunch.
Former astronaut Scott Kelly talked about an experience he had by talking about optical illusion. Kelly stated that one day, while flying in the USA with his co-pilot, they saw a UFO. But when they looked back, they realized it was a balloon, he added.
