As we all know, Cars animation; It tells us the events that took place when Lightning McQueen, who is young and successful but a little spoiled, found his way to the town of Radiator. McQueen, whose life will change completely after his accident, begins to look at the world from a completely different perspective.

However, it is confusing that a similar subject was covered in another movie shot in the early 90s.

The story of the movie Doc Hollywood, shot in 1991, begins very similar to our animation.

The life of our hero, who somehow ends up in a forgotten town, changes dramatically, just like McQueen.

Dr. Neil Shulman’s “What? Dead…Again?” Adapted from the book, Doc Hollywood, starring Michael J. Fox, Julie Warner and Woody Harrelson. Our lead character, Benjamin Martin, a doctor who dreams of going to Hollywood, sets out straight for the job opportunity he encounters. However, the events he experiences on the road will drag him to a town and if he makes an accident there, he will be punished with compulsory public service. Does it sound familiar to you?

Sentenced to 32 hours of mandatory public duty, Benjamin has to serve his sentence in the town hospital.

Our hero, who helps the patients during this process, will encounter a beautiful woman (Lou) in the town and will be impressed by her. Benjamin, who gets close to the townspeople and Lou in a short time, also manages to make great friendships.

Finally, when his compulsory public service is over, Benjamin goes to California to get the job he has always dreamed of. Our hero, who started his new and prestigious job here, remains mindful of the town. Benjamin, who cannot forget his happy moments in the town, will eventually make that critical decision for himself.

Pixar seems to have made a very successful production out of the popular movie of the 90s.

We can briefly describe Doc Hollywood this way. The experiences of Şimşek McQueen and Benjamin, whose personalities are very similar, are also very similar in the movie. Even though one of our characters is a doctor and the other is a racer, their achievements at the end of the day are quite similar.

We can list all the striking similarities between the Cars animation and the Doc Hollywood movie as follows:

  • Benjamin Martin and Lightning McQueen are two characters who both want to be successful but are spoiled at the same time.
  • One has a red car (1956 Porsche 356 Speedster) and the other appears as a red car himself.
  • As a result of an accident, they end up in a town that is almost forgotten.
  • Being sentenced to public service for the damage they caused to the town.
  • The people in the town didn’t like our characters at first, but then they got closer.
  • Both of our characters encounter a beautiful woman in town. (Lou and Sally)
  • While Lou is a former law student, Sally is a former lawyer.
  • Both of our characters understand that there are more important things than fame and money at the end of the day.

When we look at all this, it would not be wrong to say that there are significant similarities between the Cars animation and Doc Hollywood, especially in terms of the main theme. However, the fact that it was influenced by the Doc Hollywood movie does not reduce the value of the Cars animation in our eyes. So what do you think about the similarity of these two movies?
