Apple placed an order with BOE, which ordered 5 million iPhone 15 display panels before the launch. However, light leakage problems in the screen holes made production impossible.
At that time, Apple made an agreement with Samsung and 2 million iPhone 15 and 15 Plus screens arrived in time for the launch. For the remaining 3 million orders, BOE could not reach the desired level.
The company, which supplies screens to flagship Android models in addition to Apple, has not yet been able to overcome production problems for the iPhone 15. Although Samsung is a major supplier of OLED, Apple is closer to BOE in terms of production costs.
On the other hand, the dynamic island seems to be the reason why BOE cannot reach the desired production quality for iPhone 15 screen supply. BOE, which also produces screens for Android phones, has not made a large screen hole like the dynamic island. Experts emphasize the importance of millimeter precision for this production.
Again, for the production of iPhone 15 screens, BOE has not yet overcome these problems. This means that Apple has increased the costs for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. It is currently unclear whether this delay will cause a problem for the supply of iPhone 15 and Plus.
It is also possible that Apple may reach an agreement with BOE for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. However, the company needs to overcome existing production problems for this big deal. In this sense, Samsung also has a production capacity that will replace its Chinese rival in a short time.
