ChatGPT, OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot, seems to have made a big impact on Wikipedia as well. ChatGPT topped Wikipedia’s most viewed pages this year, with more than 49 million page views in the English version of the online encyclopedia.
Like many services, including Spotify, the Wikimedia Foundation announced the 25 most viewed Wikipedia pages of 2023. The list currently includes data through November 28, but the nonprofit says it will release an updated version with the full year’s data in January 2024.
The English version of Wikipedia, which was visually renewed at the beginning of this year, reached over 84 billion page views in total. The list of Wikipedia’s 25 most viewed pages in 2023 is as follows:

ChatGPT, which recently celebrated its first birthday, has reached more than 78 million views when different languages are added. Wikimedia said page views for the English version averaged approximately 100,000 to 400,000 per day in the first half of the year.
Second only to the AI chatbot is the rather sad “Deaths in 2023” topic, which has over 42 million page views.
Apart from this, millions of users have flocked to the online encyclopedia to get information about cricket. Wikipedia pages such as “2023 Cricket World Cup”, “Indian Premier League” and “Cricket World Cup” found a place in the top 25 most viewed list.
