The famous helicopter mission in the Vice City game of Grand Theft Auto, one of the most popular series in the game world, is considered by many players as the most difficult GTA mission ever.

We wanted to take a detailed look at why this task, which put us all through so much trouble years ago, is so difficult. So come, let’s see together.

First of all, let’s briefly recall the “Demolition Man” mission, which remains in our minds as a helicopter mission.

The mission began when Avery Carrington asked us to destroy a construction that had already begun. Our main character, Tommy, was driving away from the construction site and getting into a tiny van to control a small remote-controlled helicopter. When we took control of the helicopter, we were asked to place the four bombs in various parts of the construction within the given time.

We are talking about all the years that have passed, was this task that many of us still cannot forget, was it really difficult or were we small?

Many of us were young or inexperienced when playing GTA: Vice City years ago. Although this factor reinforces the difficulty of the mission, we can easily accept that the helicopter mission is a really challenging task in itself. Although there were many reasons that made the task difficult, the most difficult element of this task was that the users playing on the computer were playing with the keyboard.

The controls of the helicopter on the joysticks were at a level that could be considered more comfortable than the keyboard. Those who tried to play with the keyboard encountered a brand new control scheme that they saw for the first time in the game. The helicopter, which we tried to control using the “Num” keys of the keyboard, needed a serious familiarization process with its difficult controls.

This was not the only difficulty of the mission, we had to find the designated locations of the construction site and carefully place the four bombs. Another factor that increased the stress, excitement and difficulty was that as soon as we received the first bomb, a seven-minute period started and we had to complete the task within these seven minutes.

The construction workers who followed us when they saw our tiny helicopter were also an important part of this mission. While they were chasing our helicopter with hammer in hand, all these overlapping factors made the helicopter mission difficult. When we overcame all this and planted all four bombs, we detonated the building and successfully completed the mission.

Some of us tried this task dozens of times, while some of us completed it in a short time and preferred to make fun of those who said the task was difficult.

The helicopter mission, which many of us still cannot forget, was a really challenging task 20 years ago. Especially when meeting for the first time. However, in today’s conditions, if we were to come across such a task again, maybe we could easily pass. Because games have become much more common and accessible. As such, we all gained experience and faced more challenging tasks more than once.

Despite all this, when we consider many of the games released today, we can easily see that they have a much simpler structure compared to the past and that their target audience is more general. Most of them have become productions that try to appeal to everyone, far from the struggle and difficulty of the games we played in the past. As the industry grew, this was inevitable. So, what memory do you have of the famous helicopter mission? We look forward to your answers in the comments!

BONUS: Can we say that those who passed the helicopter mission one-on-one would beat Karpov in one try?
