Ridley Scott’s latest film, House of Gucci (The Gucci Family), garnered reactions from the surviving family members of the Gucci fashion dynasty. The family said the film was an insult to the legacy the brand had built, saying it was “humiliating and painful” about the production.

Ridley Scott’s film stars Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, Jeremy Irons as his brother Rodolfo, and Adam Driver as his nephew Maurizio, who takes over the company until he is killed by a hitman hired by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani in 1995. Lady Gaga plays the role of Patrizia Reggiani in the movie. His ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani was sentenced to 26 years in prison in 1998 for murdering Maurizio Gucci, the granddaughter of the founder of the Italian fashion house Gucci, by hiring a hit man in 1995. He was released last 2017 on grounds of good behavior.

The film, adapted from the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamor and Greed, published in 2000, was released on November 24. Heirs says the film “attributes a tone that never belongs to its heroes,” and adds, “This is extremely painful from a human standpoint and is an affront to the legacy on which the brand is built today.”

Director Denies Allegations
Patricia Gucci, the only daughter of Aldo Gucci, who ran the fashion house for 33 years until the mid-1980s, previously accused Director Ridley Scott of “stealing a family’s identity to make a profit”. The director denies these allegations.
“You have to remember that one Gucci was killed and another went to jail for tax evasion, so you can’t be talking about making a profit for me,” Ridley Scott told BBC Radio 4’s Today program in recent weeks.

Speaking about the words of the heirs who said that they did not consult with the filmmakers, Lady Gaga said that she felt it was unnecessary: ”I felt that I could do justice to this story only if I approached it through the eyes of a curious woman who is interested in having a journalistic spirit to be able to read between the lines. “He wasn’t going to say who he was. Not even Patrizia Gucci.”
