Apple will make its new software available for download on September 18 at 20:00 CET. iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17 and watchOS 10 updates will be available for compatible devices. macOS Sonoma for Macs will be released on September 26. The most anticipated update with iOS 17 is watchOS 10. Many features of the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will come to older models.

The WatchOS 10 update, which brings new watch faces, new health tools, Smart Grouping and much more, will be released today. Apple Watch Series 4 and newer watches will be updated to watchOS 10. watchOS 10 requires iPhone XS and newer with iOS 17. As always, watchOS 10 can be downloaded and installed via the Watch app on iPhone by following the General – Software Update path. Here are the innovations with watchOS 10:

1. Apple applications are here with their new looks

Over the years, the screen area of Apple Watches has expanded. However, Apple did not use the extra space efficiently. With watchOS 10, Apple apps have undergone significant design changes that let you see more information at a glance. For example; Fitness, Clock and Weather applications now contain much more information.

2. Smart Grouping that sorts apps by time of day

Just when widgets were forgotten on Apple Watch, watchOS 10 brings widgets to the forefront with its brand new smart grouping feature. This feature, which you can access when you turn the digital crown on any watch face, shows information adjusted according to the work you are doing and the time of day. For example; You can see the weather forecast at the beginning of the day and the calendar at the end of the day. Smart Grouping also provides information about open applications such as Apple Music. There is also an analog clock and date at the top of the smart grouping.

3. New way to access Control Center

With watchOS 10, you access Control Center in a different way. Now you need to tap the side button. If you quickly double-tap the Digital Crown, you go to the applications screen you have used before.

4. Four new watch faces

watchOS 10 introduced two watch faces: Palette and Snoopy. The palette uses dynamic color to highlight different elements of the watch face. Snoopy is an animated watch face that highlights the playful spirit of the world-famous dog. Presenting classic hour markers on a bright background, Solar Analog adjusts light and shadow according to the position of the sun. The Nike Globe, shown at the Apple Watch Series 9 launch, displays the hours and minutes with special numerals, illuminating the lines of the globe with each passing second, and is a watch face that athletes will particularly enjoy.

5. NameDrop

NameDrop, which is also an iOS 17 feature, is the fastest way to share your contact information with someone nearby. All you have to do is touch your watch to the other person’s iPhone. You can also take advantage of the NameDrop feature by tapping the Share button in the My Card section of the Contacts application or by using the My Card complication.

6. Specific measurements for the bike

watchOS 10 delivers advanced metrics, views and experiences for cycling. Information from the watch is automatically transferred to your iPhone as a live event. Simply tap the screen and you’ll see a variety of workout metrics, including Heart Rate Zones, Elevation, Race Route, Custom Workouts, and the all-new Bike Speed view. You can now connect Bluetooth-enabled cycling accessories to Apple Watch.

7. Brand new looks in the Compass app

watchOS 10 adds new features to the Apple Watch Compass app that will be very useful for hikers. There are two new intermediate points between these features. The first is the Cellular Link Waypoint, which estimates the final location via cellular connection. This information helps you find a place with cellular connectivity to check your messages or make calls comfortably. The second waypoint is the Last Emergency Call Point, which estimates where the Apple Watch last connected to any available carrier’s network on your route. This feature helps you know where to make emergency calls.

The watchOS 10 update also brings a new Elevation view that uses altimeter data to help you prepare routes. Additionally, Apple Maps in the US now displays a topographic map with isohips, hill shading, elevation details, and points of interest.

8. Mental health and Eye health

watchOS 10 brings mental and vision health tools. Mental health tools are included in Apple’s Mindfulness app, where you can regularly track your emotions and daily mood. Over time, the app uses this information to create valuable insights that can help you identify factors affecting your mood and get customized solutions.

Myopia, or short-sightedness, usually begins in childhood. Research shows that myopia is better controlled if children spend 80 to 120 minutes a day outside. Apple Watch’s new vision health tool tracks how many minutes a day you spend outdoors using the watch’s ambient light sensor. You can adjust your daily routine with this information.
