Bursa Uludag University (BUU) Prof. Dr. Attending the 2021-2022 Academic Year opening ceremony held at the Mete Cengiz Cultural Center, Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Board (TOGG) CEO Gürcan Karakaş announced that they plan to start mass production of Turkey’s domestic car, whose crash tests are ongoing, by the end of 2022.
Mentioning that the vehicle is optimized in line with the reports after each test, Karakaş stated that there is a serious gap in cyber security and told the youth to focus on this issue.
Crash tests are expected to continue until the end of February.
Emphasizing that the vehicle has great potential from material to battery management and integration, Karakaş reminded that the lithium battery capacity in Europe, which is now over 600 and going towards a thousand, was below 50 megawatts (MW) hours until three years ago. Karakaş underlined that for the current chip crisis, if the capacity gaps are not closed quickly enough, a cell crisis is likely to occur in a very short time.
Stating that they benefited from all kinds of mathematical modeling, simulation and remote working methods as much as possible during the pandemic, Karakaş pointed out that the technical designs of the vehicle were also decided on a common denominator. Noting that they continue to work on samples and prototypes, Karakaş said that they expect the crash tests to continue until the end of February.
‘The car requires more than the factory’
Underlining that there will be more than just production in TOGG facilities, Karakaş said, “There is not only production in our facility. I want to underline this. We said ‘the car requires more than the factory’ when we started the construction. We think of the design center as a center where our prototypes can be tested. We think of it as a place where we gather all our competencies under one roof. You can see that the roof and side panels of the paint shop are starting to close. In the coming days, equipment will begin to settle inside the facility. Our plan here is as follows, by the end of the year, most of the manufacturing part will be finished. After the equipment is completed until the middle of next year, all that remains is to prepare our vehicle for production on the basis of stations and lines. In addition to all these, Karaka said that they have not recruited new graduates from universities within the scope of TOGG for the time being; however, he also stated that they plan to recruit new graduates and interns as the process progresses.
