US-based technology giant Apple released a feature called “Lock Mode” with iOS 16. This feature helped users who thought they were under cyber attack to impose serious restrictions on their phones. According to Apple, with Lock Mode, users who are under serious cyber attack will be able to repel this attack.

However, recent news has revealed that this feature can be bypassed. According to a study by cybersecurity company Jamf Threat Labs, hackers can bypass the Lock Mode feature very easily. Even a fake Lock Mode can be created. So, although Apple is confident in the feature it has developed, cyber security experts believe that this is not the case.

Lock Mode won’t protect a leaked iPhone

According to the study of cyber security researchers, Lock Mode focuses on protecting users who are under the threat of cyber attacks. But it doesn’t do much more than that. This means that this feature cannot detect antivirus or malware. Therefore, if an iPhone has already been hacked, the Lock Mode feature is of little use.

The research also revealed the effects of Safari, the default internet browser of iPhones, on Lock Mode. The hacker can change the way Lock Mode works on Safari and make PDF files on the device readable. However, when this feature is activated, the files should become unreadable.
