But depending on when it hits stores, such a phone might upset some iPhone 15 buyers.
In early July, rumors about the iPhone SE 4 said that the phone could be released in 2025 due to Apple’s difficulties in supplying OLED screens for the phone.
This was already an exciting development for the next-generation iPhone SE model. The use of OLED displays instead of LCD means that all of Apple’s iPhone models will have OLED panels. Also, using the iPhone 14 design as the basis for the iPhone SE 4 is a pretty good approach. Previous rumors said that the iPhone 11 case will be used for the iPhone SE 4.
The iPhone 14 design is a different version of the 2020 iPhone 12 design. The iPhone 11 is a variation of the old iPhone X design that Apple introduced in 2017.
By mid-August, leakster Unknownz21 reiterated claims that the iPhone SE 4 will be a variant of the iPhone 14.
About the SE 4 – yes, it’s effectively an iPhone 14 derivative. But still nicer than the old iPhone 8 design.

The leaker said the iPhone SE 4 will look similar to the iPhone 14, but not exactly the same phone. He also said that the notch design, cameras and another mysterious feature will differentiate the iPhone SE 4 from the base iPhone 15.
Unknownz21 expanded this tweet a few days later, listing the supposed iPhone SE 4 specs. It looks like the phone will feature Face ID, USB-C connectivity, the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button, and a rear-facing camera.
What’s interesting about this is – if they’re gonna basically retrofit an action button into a modified D27 housing, then it would almost certainly be possible to implement the feature on the base model iPhone 15. If these claims are true, the iPhone SE 4 will be a very good phone.
So why can the iPhone SE 4 upset iPhone 15 buyers?
If Apple can launch it in early 2024, it will have a big advantage over the iPhone 15: the action button. However, it will only have one camera.
If the iPhone SE 4 isn’t released by 2025, that’s another matter entirely. Until then, we can expect all iPhone 16 models to have Action buttons.
It also seems likely that the iPhone SE 4 will have the powerful A17 Bionic chip in 2025. This processor is currently reserved for iPhone 15 Pro models. But next year, Apple is expected to power the cheaper iPhone 16 models.
