The prototype is only 2 months before the original iPod was introduced.
Cabel Sasser, an official from Panic, shared an image of an iPod prototype. It looks like Panic has finally decided to share this long-held iPod prototype with the rest of the world today, in honor of the iPod’s 20th anniversary. Sassel says he has no idea how this iPod prototype got into Panic’s hands.
It is noteworthy that the prototype, which Sasser stated to be dated September 3, 2001, belongs to the end of the product’s development cycle, but is yellow in color and quite large compared to the original iPod version.
The prototype, which works with the signature software of the iPod, which Panic claims has had for 20 years, has a tiny scroll button in the upper left corner of the screen. In addition, there are several tactile buttons positioned vertically on the right side of the device. Also, the prototype is only 2 months before the original iPod was released.
The prototype has exactly the same ports found on the original iPod, including FireWire and a standard headphone connection. The screen of the device is extremely small compared to the rest of the yellow case; but it seems comparable to the iPod’s display. The internal layout of the device, on the other hand, is quite similar to that of the released iPod; However, it is noteworthy that there is a fairly large free space inside the device.
