Since the Ethereum Blockchain transitioned to the Proof of Work consensus last September, the high-throughput GPUs that have been used have been idle. However, miners stated that artificial intelligence can provide the GPU power that it may need.
GPUs That Artificial Intelligence Need Are Available in Ethereum Miners
Companies that use and host GPUs or graphics processing units have lost a significant part of their once thriving business to increasingly difficult ground for crypto. But now mining infrastructure companies like Hive Blockchain and Hut 8 Mining are finding opportunities to reuse their GPU-based equipment for another industry on the brink of a possible upswing. This sector, on the other hand, is artificial intelligence, which has developed quite recently.
Jaime Leverton, Hut 8 Chief Executive Officer, said in an interview:
“If you can re-implement some of this investment in GPU mining infrastructure and turn it into new cards and workloads, it will be viable.”
Not all crypto miners are in a position to take advantage of the craze around AI or the abundance of expensive chips on hand. According to Bitpro Consulting, which provides brokerage services for miners, between 5 percent and 15 percent of existing crypto-focused GPUs can be reused for adjacent applications such as artificial intelligence and computer vision generative graphic design.
