Today, it was revealed that a similar move will come from Samsung. Before Google’s announcement, the South Korean technology giant, which was the leader in the Android ecosystem in terms of software support, stated that it planned to support Galaxy phones for a longer period of time.
Samsung plans to provide security updates to its phones for more than five years
Shin-Chul Baik, a Samsung executive, answered questions from SamMobile during last week’s developer conference. Baik stated that they want to offer security updates to Galaxy phones for more than five years, and that this plan is being discussed at the company.
We can say that one of the reasons for this move by Samsung is to respond to Google. However, Baik states that regulations that put pressure on smartphone manufacturers to extend update support are also effective.
