Recently, motorcycles have attracted great attention from citizens. The Motorcycle Industry Association (MOTED) revealed the motorcycle sales figures in the first 10 months of the year using TUIK data. In the first 10 months, motorcycle sales amounted to 813 thousand 520 units, and it also managed to surpass automobile sales, which amounted to 749 thousand 501 units in the same period.

In his statement to Hürriyet, Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat stated that the audits previously carried out in both the food sector and the automotive market had yielded results, and that the practices created a ‘breakthrough’ effect in the market. Minister Bolat said, “The automotive market has been regulated to a great extent. A brand new car, which could not be found in 6 months, was delivered in 6 hours. “We will continue our practices.” he said.

Minister Bolat may intervene in the motorcycle market

Previously, Istanbul Motor Vehicle Dealers Association (İMAS) President Hayrettin Erkaynak announced that they would send an information note to the Ministry of Commerce regarding motorcycle advertisements that are trying to be sold above the list price. Regarding the issue, Minister Bolat said, “Motorcycle is also a vehicle of the automotive industry. We are working on that issue as well. There are currently intense inspections and punitive practices. Our friends are working with industry representatives on a regulation for motorcycles. “We will ensure price reductions and order there too,” he said.

Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat also made statements towards exporters who criticized the exchange rate, stating that they could not compete against global competitors. Bolat said, “Our exporters want a more competitive exchange rate, but when we asked, ‘Do you undertake not to raise prices when the exchange rate increases?’, none of them could say ‘yes’. When the exchange rate increases, the general price level rises and the advantage brought by the exchange rate increase disappears in a very short time. The important thing is that price stability is achieved.” “To be able to increase exports in such an environment.” he said.
