Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about Neuralink, the brain chip co-founded by Elon Musk, in a podcast he attended the other day. He said “normal people” won’t want to wear such a chip in the near future. But he reported that Meta is investigating neural interface technology for the metaverse.
Mark Zuckerberg: Normal people don’t want to wear a Neuralink chip
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who joined Joe Rogan’s podcast series, discussed the relationship between brain chips and the metaverse. Stating that they are working on various neural interface technologies for Metaverse, Zuckerberg stated that people will not use brain chips just for fun.
Expressing that they are not working on a computer giving information directly to the brain, Meta CEO said that neural technologies can be integrated into AR glasses. According to an example Zuckerberg gave, it may be possible to send a message by scratching the wrist area.
“In the future, you will have this experience where you are sitting in a meeting, your partner is texting you, your glasses appear in the corner of your eye, and you want to respond… Scratch your wrist a little bit. No one will know about it and you will send a message. It’s like a super stealthy move,” he said.
Zuckerberg also stated that they do not focus on projects similar to Neuralink. He underlined that he thinks that normal people won’t “build their brains” for fun in the next 10 or 15 years.
Elon Musk’s initiative Neuralink has not yet begun human trials. But rival biotech firm Synchron received permission for human trials last July. However, brain chip projects are not being tested on humans, except for people with paralysis.
