While the world is still warming up to 5G technology, Huawei Technologies seems to be ready for the next step with the introduction of 5.5G networks. Participating in the 14th Global Mobile Broadband Forum held in Dubai, Huawei partnered with many telecom giants, including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, as well as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Telecommunication Company, in this project, which was announced at a magnificent ceremony. .

Countdown to 5.5G

In his speech, Huawei’s Corporate Senior Vice President Li Peng called on global operators and industry partners to take action to cope with increasing network demands and make the most of future trends. Li describes 5G-Advanced, or 5.5G, as the next natural evolution of the current standard.

So what’s the fuss about 5.5G? Huawei claims that the new technology offers ten times the speed of existing 5G networks, lower latency and efficient power usage. The 5.5G era will feature 10 gigabit downlink connection speeds and gigabit uplink connection speeds to meet increasingly diverse service requirements. Not just for individual consumers, these upgrades are expected to be revolutionary for various industries.

According to Huawei, the accelerated commercialization phase for 5.5G is already underway globally. Almost 20 countries reportedly have spectrum for 5.5G, making it clear that this is not just a futuristic vision but a technology poised for mainstream adoption. On the other hand, Huawei previously announced that it plans to launch a complete set of commercial 5.5G network equipment in 2024 and expanded its product portfolio for the technology.

The most ready country is China

China is a pioneer in the 5G race, having more than 2.8 million 5G base stations as of May. A significant 52 percent of China Mobile’s upcoming 5G base station work will be based on Huawei equipment. The introduction of 5.5G technology, also called “5G-Advanced”, is essentially seen as a stepping stone to 6G, which will occur within a decade. The 5.5G network is envisioned as more than just an incremental upgrade. With 5.5G, a paradigm shift is envisioned in our thinking about connectivity and its applications in industries.
