Entrepreneur and executive Glen de Vries, who was part of the second team to visit space with Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin, was killed in a plane crash in New Jersey. Vries was 49 years old.
De Vries, along with flight instructor Thomas Fischer, died after a single-engine Cessna 172 crashed near Lake Kemah, the New Jersey Herald said.
“We are devastated to hear of Glen de Vries’ sudden death. He has colored and energized the lives of the entire Blue Origin team and other teammates. De Vries embarked on a short space journey on the Blue Origin New Shepard rocket on October 13, along with famous science fiction actress William Shatner, Planet Labs co-founder Chris Boshuizen, and Blue Origin’s vice president of mission and flight operations Audrey Powers.
