The US State Department announced on Wednesday that the rights of people who do not identify as male or female will be recognized, and that’s why passports to be used from next year will have an X in the gender section.
It was stated that the feature in question will be accepted for everyone who applies for the X mark starting next year. However, after countries such as the USA, Germany, Argentina and Denmark, it has become one of the rare countries that recognize gender neutral rights.
Passport marked X was first issued to a Colorado person
In fact, X-marked passports were given to a man named Dana Alyx Zzym, who lives in Colorado. In 2015, Zzym’s request to remove the M (Male) phrase from her passport because she did not want to reveal her gender was justified by the court and the USA’s first X-marked passport was given to this person.

Jessica Stern, the State Department’s special diplomatic representative for LGBT+ rights, describes the introduction of the X in passports as a historic event for the United States. According to Stern, this new feature will allow people to reflect who they are and be given the honor and respect they deserve.
Until now, the gender section of US passports had an F for women and an M for men. With the passports that will be used next year, those who wish will be able to have the phrase X, which means neutral gender, put in the same part.
