Like most of the best Android phones in 2023, all 3 models in the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S23 series are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, but Apple’s high-end A16 Bionic is reining in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. .

This situation may change in 2024. According to a leak from RGcloudS, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in development will be significantly more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the Samsung Galaxy-exclusive version of the chipset will “on paper” surpass Apple’s upcoming A17 Bionic .

In other words, it could be faster than the Samsung Galaxy S24 and its bigger siblings, which we expect to launch early next year, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro and the much-rumored iPhone 15 Ultra.

According to the leaked information, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will have 1 high-performance Cortex-X4 core running at 3.7 GHz, 4 low-frequency performance cores and 3 efficiency-oriented cores. For comparison, the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is clocked at 3.2GHz; so it looks like its successor will be 15 percent stronger.

The Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra all contain a special version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the 3.7 GHz of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 still marks a significant increase over the 3.36 GHz clock speed.

It’s not clear whether the figures quoted by RGcloudS refer to the standard version of Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset (rather than the Galaxy-exclusive version), but the phrases “Gen 3 for Galaxy” indicate Snapdragon 8 as 8 Gen 2 in 2023. It indicates that we will see 2 variants of Gen 3.

We expect the core Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to be featured in future Xiaomi, Honor and OnePlus flagships, although the performance differences between these devices and Samsung’s next Galaxy S phones probably won’t be too obvious.
