Japan’s Moon base will mark a first in the space race
Currently, countries such as the USA, China and Russia have plans to establish a settlement on the Moon. Countries that believe that this base will be critical in the journey to Mars are almost at war in space. A new statement from Japanese researchers opens the door to a base that will offer artificial gravity support for the first time.
Kyoto University and Kajima Corp. The new project, put on the plan by the authorities, aims to make the journey between Earth, Moon and Mars possible. Researchers believe that they want to create artificial gravity on the Moon and that they can use the centrifugal force for this, similarly to the Earth.
The gravitational force of the Earth is almost six times greater than that of the Moon. But researchers at Kyoto University said they can create a gravity close to that on Earth by mimicking the centrifugal force. Yosuke Yamashiki, a researcher from Kyoto University who led the project, said:
Other countries do not have such a plan in their space development plans. Our plan represents technologies crucial to enabling humans to move into space in the future. As the idea of living in space became more realistic, the problem of gravity became something we had to tackle.
Japanese researchers also pointed out that the base to be established on the Moon should have a biodiversity like the one on Earth. They believe that a simple living place could be established by 2050, and a full-scale Moon base by 2090.
Previously, NASA had expressed concerns that prolonged low gravity could create health problems. For this reason, Japan’s research has already entered the radar of other countries.
