You must have seen close-up photos and videos of bees hovering on a honeycomb before, but in the video you will see soon, you will witness for the first time that a bee carries propolis in its mouth.

A commercial film crew captured spectacular images under harsh conditions to show people why and how bees make the very low-known propolis substance and what it does.

Different styles of cameras were used to shoot 3 different videos, lasting approximately 9 minutes in total.

They pierced a hive and introduced a special pipe camera into the bees’ world, and the process of making honey and propolis was captured in detail.

The film crew was told that it was unwise to put a camera inside a beehive in the first place. Because the bees could cover the lens of the camera with wax or they could stop working and leave the hive as soon as they saw the camera.

As the beekeepers said this as a feedback, the team did a shoot under stress. Fortunately, they did not encounter the mentioned situation and they were able to get the images they wanted, albeit with difficulty.

In case the bees cover the camera with wax, 3 different hives were made.

One was glass, if the possibility of wax were to occur, it would be shot from the outside of the glass. The other hive could be opened from various places. Another sleeve was pierced where the pipe cameras could pass.

Despite such production measures being taken, it cannot be said that a full measure has been taken, since it is not possible to predict what the bees will do, it was quite an experimental work.

During the shooting process, the film crew faced various difficulties.

When they went to a bee farm, the account at home did not match the market. In fact, unsurprisingly, they’ve been stinged multiple times. To their surprise, the bees started looting as they opened the hives and sighed.

Because the hives were opened, the honey was exposed, and the bees, realizing this, began to plunder the honey of neighboring hives. When the looting started, the beekeepers had to close all the hives.

The film crew also faced logistical challenges while filming the stories of the beekeepers. Because beekeeping, by nature, can be done in high places, in forests.

The transfer of a shooting crew of 50 people to these areas by minibuses was under very difficult conditions. They had to make way with dozers where vehicles could not pass, and this time they risked getting stuck in the mud.

Another risk was bears. They encountered bear footprints 50 meters from where they were filming. Bears attracted by honey could walk around from time to time. Moreover, since the night shots were also taken, the probability of encountering them was very high, but they were lucky.

The films shot contain 3 different stories from 3 different profiles. The stories include criteria such as the effort shown by the beekeepers, the sacrifice, being included in the bees’ world and being a part of the discovery process of the bees.

Here is the first video that pays off for this wonderful effort: Hear the importance of black poplar tree for propolis from Beekeeper Salih.

Like his grandfather and father, he devoted his life to bees and beekeeping. Now he passes on what he knows about beekeeping to his children. Salih Kenan Önder explains in detail why propolis is valuable and how it is produced, the secret of bees.

Hear from Aziz the Beekeeper why bees produce propolis.

Aziz Eker, who sees beekeeping as a job of the heart, has been continuing his father’s profession for more than 20 years.

Hear from Beekeeper Ayşe for what she uses the propolis produced by bees.

Ayşe Hanım, who spent every moment of the 17 years in bees thinking about her bees; He listened to the bees and followed them. According to him, the secret of bees is hidden in propolis.

These exquisite stories of beekeepers were filmed in 3 separate days. Beehive shooting, which used special shooting techniques, took 16 hours.

The editing of the videos took about 12 days. A total of 33 hours of footage has been refined and reduced to 9 minutes.

As a result of this tremendous effort, the stories of Ayşe, Aziz, Salih and her daughter Berrak emerged. Of course, not only their story, but also the story of the bees was viewed so closely for the first time, and the mystery of the bees was lifted.
