Shooting for Stranger Things season 5 will finally begin in January 2024 after a long delay, Variety reports.
The final installment of the popular Netflix series will go into full production after the Christmas season in the US, the outlet said. However, Variety’s sources state that an official start date has not yet been determined, so it is unclear when cameras will start rolling.
It’s been almost 18 months since Stranger Things season 4, part 2 was released on Netflix, and fans of the series have been eagerly waiting to see what kind of finale one of the best Netflix series will deliver with its fifth and final season. Unfortunately, fans had to wait much longer than expected for the final episode of the Stranger Things main series.
A writers’ and actors’ strike in 2023 delayed production for most of the year, and script work only resumed in late September after Writers Guild of America writers agreed to the terms of a new deal after protracted negotiations with the Motion Picture and Television Producers Alliance. The Screen Artists Guild’s strike ended in mid-November, allowing films and TV shows in production to resume filming, as well as other productions, including Stranger Things 5, with plans to eventually move into full production.
Although the shooting of the last season of Stranger Things will begin in January 2024, the series will not be ready for broadcast in 2024. It will take months to complete the shooting of season 5, and then a very challenging post-production phase (editing process, adding visual effects, sound mixing and more) will begin. The most optimistic estimate for the broadcast date of the final season is shown as early 2025.
