Apple has finally released the new version of macOS. We are talking about macOS 14 Sonoma, which replaces macOS 13 Ventura. The company offers a number of improvements in the new operating system that improve user experience and productivity. Here are the notable innovations.

Sonoma has stunning screensavers featuring nature, city and underwater scenes. In addition, you can now freely place widgets in any corner of your desktop, and their colors change dynamically, adapting to the main colors of the wallpaper. Widgets on iPhone are automatically displayed in macOS 14 when both your smartphone and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Safari experience improved

Some features have been added to the operating system that make the internet experience better. With the different profiles you create in Safari, you can browse the internet separately under headings such as Business and Personal. Thanks to profiles, you can keep your web history, extensions, Tab Groups, cookies and favorites separate.

It is now possible to add any website to the Dock as a web application from the File menu for faster access. Privacy settings have been expanded. “Sensitive Content Warning” can be enabled to prevent users from unexpectedly viewing sensitive images in Messages.

Privacy features increased

Communication Security provides protection for videos and photos with sensitive content. It should be noted that these protections cover not only Messages, but also content sent and received from both the system-wide photo picker and third-party applications.

Enhanced permissions let you choose which photos to share without granting access to your entire photo library. You can also allow an app to add events to Calendar by preventing it from displaying your information.

Game mode added

macOS Sonoma now has a game mode. This mode makes maximum use of your computer’s CPU and GPU to make your gaming experience better. At the same time, it provides you with a faster and smoother gaming experience by keeping the delay to a minimum when using your wireless headset or game controller.

macOS 14 Sonoma compatible Macs:

  • iMac (2019 and newer models)
  • iMac Pro (2017 and newer models)
  • Mac mini (2018 and newer models)
  • MacBook Air (2018 and newer models)
  • MacBook Pro (2018 and newer models)
  • Mac Pro (2019 and newer models)
  • Mac Studio (2022 and newer models)

You can download macOS 14 Sonoma to your device by going to the “Software Update” section from the “General” menu in the “System Settings” application.
