As you know, the blue bubble in iPhone’s iMessage application and the green bubble in Android have been the subject of debate for a long time. Maybe in the future this mobile class distinction may need regulators, but smartphone maker Nothing has another solution to this problem.
Nothing Chats app is an upcoming messaging app for Nothing Phone (2). The app, developed by Sunbird, asks users to sign in with their Apple ID or open a new account, and once set up, they’ll be able to send messages in Nothing Chats just as they can in iMessage when using their Android phones. According to a video uploaded by Nothing CEO Carl Pei, features like live typing indicators, full-resolution media sharing, and voice notes will be available at launch. Read receipts and message reactions will come later.
But there is a small problem. Nothing Chats requires users to log in to their Apple ID account on an Apple device via a remote connection. According to the Nothing Chats FAQ, messages sent have end-to-end encryption that neither Nothing nor Sunbird can access, and login credentials are not stored on Sunbird’s servers. It is not entirely clear how safe it will be once it is put into service.
Nothing Chats, which is still in beta, will be released on the Google Play Store on Friday for Nothing Phone (2) users in the USA, Canada, UK and EU.
