Amazon previously offered Prime subscribers a more limited song pool of 2 million songs. The company has announced that it will now offer a full music catalog with 100 million songs, and most of the best podcasts on its service will be ad-free.
In addition, the Amazon Music app is getting a new “Podcast Previews” feature that lets subscribers listen to short clips to discover new podcasts they might like. With this move, Amazon aims to strengthen its hand against its competitors.
In particular, the ad-free podcast service can put Amazon ahead of Spotify. Although Spotify offers its subscribers the chance to listen to music without ads, it does not provide the same service for podcasts. Spotify subscribers are forced to listen to ads during podcasts. With ad-free podcasts, Amazon can take itself a step further.
Alongside the expansion of the music pool and free podcasts, the Amazon Music app will also host a new design. Along with the new design, the application also includes the Podcast preview option. Thus, users will decide whether to follow the broadcasts by listening to short episodes from podcasts.
