Alibaba announced its artificial intelligence system called “Tongyi Qianwen”. It was stated that the new artificial intelligence system will be open to public and institutional access throughout China. The launch comes after authorities in China accepted applications for artificial intelligence systems.It was stated that Tongyi Qianwen is a ChatGPT-like language model trained on English and Chinese texts. It was claimed that Alibaba’s artificial intelligence model was trained with 10 times the parameters of ChatGPT4. Alibaba had previously published two 7 billion parameter open source models based on the Tongyi Qianwen architecture. Tongyi Qianwen was only available to a limited group of users during the beta testing phase.
The Chinese government announced in June that all artificial intelligence technologies disclosed to the public should be examined. The government’s rules on artificial intelligence came into force on August 15. Prominent Chinese companies including Baidu, Tencent, TikTok and ByteDance were approved.
