Giant sportswear brand Adidas conducted a study with 9,000 runners from 9 countries (men and women) in order to understand the experiences people have while running.

With the research conducted on March 10, Adidas stated that it aims to focus and draw attention to women’s safety concerns. In this context, the giant brand has published a new research called “The Ridiculous Run”, calling for “men’s education and alliance to create change”.

More than a third of women say they have been physically or verbally abused while running

As a result of the research conducted by Adidas with 9 thousand runners from 9 different countries, it was revealed that women do not feel safe while running.

On March 10, the German sportswear brand published new research as part of its new campaign “The Ridiculous Run”, which aims to highlight women’s safety concerns and call for “male education and alliances to help make change”.

According to the research; While 92 percent of women stated that they were worried about their safety while running, only 28 percent of men stated that they were afraid of being physically attacked.

More than a third of the women said they had been physically or verbally abused while running, while the rest said they received unwanted attention, sexist comments, unwanted sexual attention, honking, and even stalking.

While 53 percent of women said they experienced anxiety while running, this rate was 38 percent in men.

Women take some precautions while running

69 percent of the women surveyed stated that they wear loose clothing, run with a partner, or take precautions such as wearing headphones to feel more secure while jogging. The data also showed that 46 percent of women now lost interest in running because of the physical and verbal abuse they experienced in the survey.

According to the research; Although 62 percent of men are aware of the problems women face while running, only 18 percent of men believe it is their responsibility to help women feel more confident.

Adidas also recently shared a new YouTube video titled “The Ridiculous Run” to highlight the results of the research. In the video, the women are seen running at night in a convoy of cars and bicycles accompanying them for their safety.

Survey and video; It was created in collaboration with Adidas and White Ribbon, a non-profit organization focused on preventing violence against women and girls by educating men and boys.
